We are housed at Marchman Technical Institute because for so many of the adults in our program, they are in low-end jobs and they are not aware of the possibilities that are available through Marchman.

I talk to my kids better now, and they listen to me because I know how to talk to them without yelling and fussing all the time.  Now I ask them to do things and we do more things together now. I don't put my hand on them now, I don't spank.

I didn't know this when my children were coming up.  I even called my oldest kids and apologized.  I said that I feel bad for the way I used to talk to you children.  I am sorry.  She said it was okay.  But that is the way I was raised.  I thought it was okay to holler and cuss and fuss.  Now I know that is not right.  If you want to be treated with respect, your have to treat your children with respect.   Now I am more understanding.

I need to get my GED because I don't have any education.  I completed the 6th grade.  I want a computer so that I can start to work from my home.   I really need an education.

Amanda Participated at age 16 and attended her first school dance after completing the PAC program.  This was the first time that she was attending regular school rather than an alternative school.  She is progressing well and is getting along with her mother and father.

The Ropes course was rigorous but exciting.   The giant spider was great!  It brought out teamwork, effort and sharing.  It opened me up.

We know that children model their parent's behavior.  Without some intervention which alters inappropriate behavior, bad ideas and bad habits recycle from generation to generation.  PAC offers simple, effective ways to break that cycle.  It teaches skills and strategies for handling the everyday stresses of family life, building trust, communicating, and improving family relationships.  As a Family Literacy Initiative, PAC provides important strategies for parents, caretakers, children and others who work with this population.

When children are born, they don't come with instructions.   Sometimes we need a little help from outside the family to give us ideas. My family has proved that is works.
