Redirecting Children's Behavior (RCB) is an experiential learning approach to parenting by creating cooperation and mutual respect between parents and their adolescent/early-teenage children.  Empowering families to recognize their common ground (assets) and not continue in the cycle of negative (deficit) focusing provides the opportunities which benefit all family members.

RCB Curriculum contains these components:

  • Teach Children to Resolve their Own Conflicts
  • Understand a Childs' Behavior - How it Relates to Birth Order
  • Teach Children Respect and Responsibility

  • Explore how Parenting Methods affect Children
  • Other Choices to Enable Your Child to Make Healthy Decisions
  • Understand Why Children Misbehave
  • Learn Specific Techniques that Work for Each Goal of Misbehavior
  • Find out How to build a Childs' Self Confidence
  • Teach Self Control
  • Find ways to Hold Children Accountable for their Actions
  • Application of Natural and Logical Consequences to Behavior
  • How to win the Other Parent's Cooperation
  • Planning Family Meetings
  • Opening Communication between Family Members

Outcomes for the Parents:

~Understand developmental issues and learn how to not to take them as a personal attack on you.
~Learn about detachment and how to problem-solve issues in a way that teaches your to be more objective
~Practice listening skills that promote closeness and respect with your children and others
~Understand the mistaken goals of behavior so you can redirect these goals into positive directions
~Learn to create cooperative relationships
~Create a positive, encouraging atmosphere that promotes self-esteem, self sufficiency, and self confidence
~Learn strategies and practice resolving conflicts with power struggles

Outcomes for the Adolescent:

~Understand the physical and emotional changes that are normal and necessary to become an adult
~Understand how developmental issues affect relationships with family and peers
~Learn and practice communication tools that promote respect and cooperation with parents, siblings and friends
~Learn how to get what you want without struggling with parents and friends
~Learn how to handle stress, anger, and pressure without hurting yourself or others
~Learn how to ask for what you want, how to say "no" in a confident empowering way
