Building Your Presentation

Writing

Now comes the really tough part of the process - the actual writing. If you have planned and organized then you are a step ahead of someone who tries to do this part first. However, even the most experienced trainers or presenters often hit a block when they come to actually writing their speech or developing the PowerPoint and handouts needed for their sessions. Take a few minutes and read the article Avoiding Writer's Block by Kathryn Jacobs at http://www.powerpointanswers.com/article1003.html.

Now that you have your key words and concepts, you can begin to develop your presentation. You may want to start with the PowerPoint slides first then develop the handouts and activities or you may reverse the order and start with your handouts and activities and build the PowerPoint around them. To learn more about building PowerPoint presentations and the do's and don'ts, click on the projector on the home page of the Presenter's Room. You will find tutorials for using PowerPoint as well as techniques that will make your presentation stand out from the rest.

Keep in mind that with most presentations there are two specific elements that you will have to write - the presentation itself (possibly a PowerPoint slide show) and the handouts that you will give to the participants. Make sure that all materials are succinctly written - don't write a page when a few bullets will do.
