Learning Unit 1 - The Adult Learner

The next time you walk into an adult education classroom, take a minute and just look around at all of the students in the room. In your classroom, just as in classrooms across the country, you will find a wonderfully diverse group of students. Think for a minute about what it took for each student to enroll in your class. For some, it may not have been a big deal - but for others, it was the first step towards the future and new opportunities.

Time for Reflection

Close your eyes and think for a moment about the students in your classroom. Now in your mind, select two or three students. What are they like? Are there any similarities between the students? What are their differences? How are they doing in class? Are they progressing steadily or do they struggle? What are their goals, their dreams, and their aspirations? How well do you really know your students?
On a sheet of paper, make a list of things that you know about one of the students you are visualizing. When you are finished, click on the link below.
