Building a Welcoming and Non-Threatening
Environment
What is the first impression a new
student gets when they walk through the door to your classroom?
- Is your room an inviting one?
- Do they receive a smile and a welcome
as they come in the room?
- Do you take time to introduce them
to other students?
- Are the tables and chairs designed
for adults or children?
- Is there a place to spread out and
work?
- Is there interaction among students
in the classroom?

Hopefully, all of your comments, behaviors,
and printed signs are in the inviting column. However, if you have
some that fall in the disinviting column eliminate them as soon
as possible.
