What is Adult Basic Education (ABE)?

If you are new to adult education, some of the terminology may not be familiar to you so the first question to answer is:

What is Adult Basic Education (ABE)?

Let's look at the state of Florida's definition for Adult Basic Education or as it is better known, ABE.

Adult Basic Education (ABE) includes the courses of instruction designed to improve the employability of the state's workforce through instruction in mathematics, reading, language, and workforce readiness skills at grade level equivalency 0-8.9.

Courses included in ABE programs are:

  • Mathematics
  • Reading
  • Language
  • Workplace Readiness Skills
