Module 4 - Student Eligibility

Adult Basic Education - The Matrix

The state of Florida provides a matrix and a curriculum framework on which to develop your Adult Basic Education program. Let's first look at the Adult Basic Education matrix.

Adult Basic Education is divided into three academic courses of study:

  • Mathematics
  • Reading
  • Language

Each of these courses includes four different levels:

  • Beginning Literacy
  • Beginning Basic Education
  • Intermediate Low
  • Intermediate High

These levels may also be referred to as Basic Literacy, Beginning Literacy, Intermediate Literacy, and Functional Literacy, respectively.
