Adult
Learners and Comprehension Strategies
- Building fluency
- Teaching vocabulary
- Teaching to assist comprehension
- "What You Can Do to Become a Better
Reader"
- Using "DED"s with longer texts
Even while you assess your students' needs
in terms of building basic skills in phonemic awareness (units of sound)
and phonics instruction (sound/letter correspondence), it's possible to
build other reading strategies simultaneously to help your readers develop
skills.
Developing fluency and building vocabulary
will help along the way toward comprehension, the end goal in reading
the different types of texts that students encounter.
