Hosted
by the U.S. Department of Education, the No Child Left Behind website contains
lots of resources that you may find helpful. You can subscribe to "The
Achiever," a newsletter for parents, teachers, and others interested
in NCLB programs and other issues of education.
Featured in a recent issue was a new publication entitled "Helping Your Child Become a Responsible Citizen," one of a series of booklets which you can download, or you can request that it be sent to you. As part of the "Just Read, Florida" initiative, the Florida Department of Education works with llocal school districts, educators, parents, and community members to review current reading programs and make recommendations on reading standards, effective strategies, and reading course requirements. Florida received $45.6 million from the federal government for "Reading First" in 2002-2003, to develop research-based programs and strategies to help students read proficiently by the end of third grade.
