Full instructions for disposal procedures and completing the Records Disposition Request, Form LS5E107, are contained in The Basics of Records Management handbook.  Included in this module are matrices derived from Schedules GS1, GS5 and GS7 that can be used as a quick reference source in determining when records have become obsolete.  A paper copy of these General Records Schedule publications can be obtained by faxing a request to (850) 413-7224.

All retention periods reflected within the Bureau's general records schedules are based on a combination of state and federal laws, general administrative practices and fiscal management principles.  Always keep in mind that these are the minimum retention periods.  Public agencies may, at their own discretion, elect to maintain their records for longer periods of time.  Since certain other accreditation committees have standards that require longer retention periods, you should check with your accreditation organization for more information on their requirements before initiating destruction of any public records you maintain.
