Welcome to Florida's Bridges to Practice:
An Introduction

You are about to begin a journey into the world of learning disabilities. Learning disabilities (LD) is a term that describes a wide variety of disorders. Although research estimates that the number of American adults with learning disabilities range from 3 to 15 percent of the general population, even more startling is that a greater incidence of learning disabilities is found among the population of adults with low-level literacy skills - many of our adult education students. Although research is not definitive, estimates indicate that between 30 to 80 percent of adults with low level literacy skills may also have a learning disability.
