Welcome to Florida's
Bridges to Practice

Merging Theory with Practice

In the first web-based training of Florida's Bridges to Practice - An Introduction (located at http://www.floridatechnet.org/inservice/bridges), you learned about:

  • The wide range of disorders that are called learning disabilities

  • The screening and diagnosis process

  • Instructional modifications, strategies, and accommodations

  • Legal issues related to adults with learning disabilities

  • The need for systemic change - programmatic and services

  • State and national resources

Merging Theory with Practice builds on basic information that has been obtained through prior knowledge on learning disabilities, assessment, learning styles, and teaching strategies related to academic areas and the different modalities. This web-based training includes information in the areas of attention deficit disorder, learning disabilities and the ESOL/ESL learner, accommodations versus modifications, and creating effective and efficient teaching strategies. The end result of this web-based training is for adult education, literacy and service providers to help adults in better using their strengths and accommodating their areas of challenges.
