LD Review

A whole new world opens up
A whole new world opens for us as we learn and develop ourselves.

Information on learning disabilities in adults has increased significantly. There has been a growing recognition by educational professionals that learning disabilities are real and that they affect adults as well as children. Understanding the needs of adults with learning disabilities is extremely important. Many adults attended school when services for students with learning disabilities were not widely available. As children, these students did not receive services or they were identified late in their school career and did not receive effective intervention.

Also, legislation such as the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Americans with Disabilities Act has mandated that individuals with disabilities, including those with learning disabilities, be assured basic opportunities in education, the community, and the workplace.
