What
Are "Reasonable Accommodations?"
Reasonable accommodations
are often referred to as auxiliary aids or services that provide
greater accessibility to the individual with a disability. These
aids or services must be provided unless the provider can demonstrate
that the accommodation would cause undue hardship or constitute
a substantial change to the nature of the program. In most cases,
reasonable accommodations are just that - reasonable. The costs
are generally limited and the types of accommodations required can
be made without changing the nature of your program. Although many
people fear that making accommodations will cost thousands and thousands
of dollars, the research clearly demonstrates that most accommodations
are cost effective - showing good returns on minimal investments.
