Accommodations By the Numbers

The GED Testing Service has vigorously promoted the availability of accommodations for individuals with disabilities. As a result, the number of adults seeking accommodations for the GED Tests has greatly increased over the past two years.

Let's see what the numbers have to say!
  • In 2001, the number of adults receiving accommodations increased by 95.5% over 2000 - increasing from 8,071 in 2000 to 15,782 in 2001.
  • The number of adults receiving testing accommodations has increased 767% since 1989.
  • The overall number of requests for specific learning disability (SLD) accommodations in 2001 increased by 162% over 2000. This is up from a mere 19% increase from 1999 to 2000.
  • The number of adults taking special editions of the GED Tests (Audio Cassette, Braille, and Large Print) increased by 98.7%, from 2,055 in 2000 to 4,084 in 2001.
  • The number of adults taking all special editions of the GED Tests increased significantly over 2000 totals: audiocassette increased by 187.9%, Braille increased by 102.3%, and large print increased by 71.4%.
  • The number of adults receiving other accommodations in 2001 (i.e., private room or additional breaks) increased by 135% from 2000.
