This is a method
that should be part of a learning disabled student's vocabulary.
If the learner can first focus on his/her strength, then identify
the weak area and an explanation of an appropriate accommodation
that will help, the learner will better be able to be successful
in a variety of environments.
An example would
be: "I am very good at building cabinets. However, I sometimes
have difficulty in reading the written directions, but I have found
that if the directions are read out loud, I can understand and follow
them more accurately."

See
how it works? Self-advocacy is a great skill for all students
and should be taught and reinforced as part of any effective
program. |
