Before you can teach your students how to be successful on the FCAT, you must be the expert in the type of questions, symbols and scoring used in The FCAT Test.

The FCAT is a very different looking test.  Not only does it use both multiple choice and performance tasks, but it also uses symbols to alert students to what type of answer is being requested.

You may be wondering what the questions are like on the FCAT.  Questions that were designed for the FCAT:

  • use topics from subject areas such as social studies, science, health/physical education, the arts, the workplace, reading and mathematics;
  • use a lot of graphic displays and illustrations;
  • incorporate thinking and problem solving skills;
  • use multiple-choice questions;
  • use performance tasks such as gridded-response as well as short and extended response questions;
  • use higher-order thinking skills and problem solving; and
  • assess selected benchmarks from the Sunshine State Standards.
