Welcome to the Orientation! This orientation has been designed to give you an overview of the components that make up this web-based training program.  If you are familiar with the Internet and the functionality of a web browser, then you may choose to skip the orientation and begin the inservice.

The purpose of this orientation is to introduce you to the icons and functionality of this website.

You will be introduced to:

  • the toolbar for Netscape and Internet Explorer;
  • the Key to Icons box located on the left hand side of every screen; and
  • the forms pages that ask you to input data and submit via the Web.
Let's begin.

When you access the Internet through your Internet provider (AOL, BellSouth, Mindspring, Cybergate, etc.) you will view the Internet using software called a "browser."  In most cases, the browser will be called Netscape  or Internet Explorer .  You can determine which browser you have by the symbols next to their names.

Internet providers such as AOL use their own browsers, however the concept is the same.

When you sign onto the Internet, a page will be displayed that looks something like this:

This browser is Netscape.  This is the Menu Bar.

This browser is Internet Explorer.  This is the Menu Bar.

Check to see what browser you have.
