Mathematics
The Mathematics Test is the most feared by students
and often by the GED teacher unless he/she is a math major. There
are four major changes to the GED 2002 Mathematics Test.
-
First and foremost, this test will require students
to go beyond the basics of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division,
fractions and percents. On the current test, if students can cover
those areas, there is a possibility they can pass the Mathematics Test.
This is not true for GED 2002. The GED Testing Service is adding
higher-level math skills to include data analysis and statistics.
It is time for teachers to brush up on their higher-level math skills.
-
Scientific Calculator - The mere mention of the words
sends some GED teachers screaming from the room. Use of a scientific
calculator is allowed on part of the new test. Teachers and students
must learn how to use a scientific calculator and its numerous function
keys. Not just any calculator can be used. The Casio fx-260
Solar is the official GED calculator and is available now through the GED
Testing Service. The Service also has an Overhead Scientific Calculator.
This Overhead Scientific Calculator is great for use in the GED classroom.
Just lay it on an overhead projector and presto the teacher can show
students exactly how to use the scientific calculator. Dont
wait, order them now. More importantly, have teachers start working
with these calculators immediately.
