OK, So How Will This Affect My LCPs?

All of the changes in the GED 2002 don’t have to have a negative impact on student achievement or LCPs.  However, if you don’t start now, it could have a drastic effect on the number of students who are successful on the GED 2002 Tests.

Think about this:
Over the past three years, Florida has increased the passing score on the individual subtests.  Three years ago, students had to have a minimum of 40 on each test.  Today, students have to have a minimum of 45 on each test.  The overall score has remained the same, 225, but it is harder for students to reach that 45 on each individual test.

We are now facing a new test with higher standards.  We don’t know what the minimum passing rate will be – that is still to be determined by the GED Testing Service.  The final answer will come sometime in late spring or early summer of 2001.  However, if the State of Florida already has high expectations for students and a more difficult test is administered, some students are going to have a very difficult time

Fewer students passing the GED means decreasing number of LCPs.  If LCPs decline, there is a good chance that programs will lose funds.
