  The Fourth Connection:
Effective Teaching Strategies
page 5

Grouping Learning Strategies

There are several different groups of learning strategies.  Some learning strategies:

  1. help students acquire information from written materials such as paraphrasing
  2. enable students to identify, organize, and store important information such as the use of mnemonics or associations
  3. facilitate written expression and demonstration of competence such as a paragraph writing strategy
  4. enhance student performance in solving mathematics problems such as the numerous computational strategies that used in solving basic facts or story problems
There are definitely a lot of ways to teach!

Teaching a Strategy

While each learning strategy is designed to address a different setting, all strategies are taught using a similar set of procedures. In order for your students to be successful in using specific strategies, you need to know how to teach them. Teaching strategies require that the student both learn the strategy and then apply it both in the classroom and in real life.
