But I'm an Educator, Not a Public Relations Expert!

As an educator, you spend your time in developing and delivering quality programs for your customers (students). Students who attend your classes know all about the quality of services that you provide. However, what about all of the customers who do not know about adult and community education? How do they find out about your programs?

Does your center have a marketing department? Probably not. Does your center have an advertising agency that handles your publicity? Of course not, you say. Then, how do people know about your center and everything that you and your colleagues do? Public relations!

Your center's public relations and marketing strategies:

  • reflect the image of your adult or community education program
  • educate individuals who might benefit from your programs
  • provide a method to gain support for your organization in the community and in the workplace

So where do you begin? The first thing to do is to list some of the good things that your organization has done, or is currently doing, that have not been shared with the public. Think for a moment about some of the great things that occur in your classroom or in your center. Now, click on the radio below to open, print and complete Project 1.
