The Five Connections

What Is Critical Thinking?

"It must be remembered that the purpose of education is not to fill the minds of students with facts...it is to teach them to think and always think for themselves." - Robert Hutchins

Often we talk about how it is difficult for adults to get back into the process of learning after being out of school for many years.  The good teacher understands that just like any other skill, learning how to learn is a skill that must be acquired and practiced in order for the student to reach his/her full potential.  Each of us wants our students to be skilled thinkers and effective learners.  This is an active and continuous process, both for you and the student.

"Critical thinking" is a term that we often use in education. Take a few minutes to develop your own definition of "critical thinking." Write your definition in the text box below. Please be sure to put your name at the end of your definition.
