Component 1:  Overview of the Changes to the GED Tests

Major Change and Major Concern

Unlike in the past, students who have not passed the entire GED Test by January 1, 2002, will have to retake the entire new GED 2002 Tests.  This will be the first time that partial scores will not be "grandfathered" into a new GED Test.

The GED Testing Service has created a great new poster that provides students with a visual reminder to complete their testing prior to December 31, 2001.  The only cost is shipping and handling, approximately $3.00.  You can also visit the American Council on Education's website and download the 8.5" x 11" inch poster to your computer.  Print and make copies of the poster, then post them throughout your center.  It is not too early to start this process.

It is very important that any examinee that has taken a part of the current GED Tests understand the importance of completing the current series before the end of 2001.  Program administrators need to start informing students of this new requirement immediately.
