The Digital Surround

Technology is changing our lives.  Email has increased the speed with which we can communicate with others.  Instant Messenger allows us to communicate online with family, friends and co-workers.  Chat rooms have opened the door for us to communicate with peers on a variety of topics, affording us the opportunity to meet "new" colleagues who may live across the country or even across the world.  Web-based training has allowed us to increase our knowledge and skills from the comfort of our homes or during "down times" at work. We can access information from our hotel rooms, our homes and our offices - information can be just a few keystrokes away.

But there can be a downside to this instant information if we lose the human touch and the ability to interact with our peers face to face.  The Digital Surround concept was developed to combine the high tech and the high touch.

This program was developed for the Florida Department of Education, Division of Community Colleges and Workforce Education by the Adult Secondary/GED/VPI Committee of the Practitioners' Task Force.
