As you participate in this Digital Surround, you will first complete some of your work on the web. There are some activities you must complete before you attend a standard workshop. After you have an opportunity to interact with your peers, you will complete the Digital Surround on the web. There are four components to this project. The first two components are completed before the onsite workshop. The third component provides information that is included in the onsite workshop for those of you who may not be able to attend a workshop. The fourth component is an opportunity for you to take the information you have learned and use it in your own program, as well as share the information with your colleagues around the state, country and even the world.

The following is a brief description of the four components:

  • Component 1 - Overview of the Changes to the GED Tests. This component outlines major changes in each of the five tests and how those changes will impact teachers, students and program administrators.
  • Component 2 - The Most Overlooked Resource. This component provides information about using the Internet as an instructional resource. The component includes information on evaluating the effectiveness and value of instructional sites.
  • Component 3 - Using the Internet in the GED Classroom. This component provides information presented in an onsite workshop. The presentation includes information on strategies for successful searching, incorporating Internet sites into the GED curriculum and accessing GED 2002 Resources.
  • Component 4 - It's Your Turn. This component provides you with an opportunity to put your newfound knowledge and skills to work by identifying instructional sites that can be used when working with any of the five tests.
