| Making the Commitment: Instructional Modifications A Resource for Addressing the Special Needs of Adults with Disabilities Introduction As an administrator, you have many concerns everyday about your programs:
Although every administrator wants a successful program, between budget meetings, paperwork and the day-to-day operational headaches, some things get left undone. If students are to be successful, then the educational programs that are provided must meet the students needs. You may sit back and say, "We individualize instruction here and every student is right on target." However, that may not be a valid statement. A report released by the National Institute for Literacy (NIFL) showed that an astounding number of adult students - yes, those students sitting in your ESOL, ABE and GED classrooms - have learning disabilities. The report states that 30-50% of ALL adult students have some type of learning disability - many of them undiagnosed. |
