What is VPI?

VPI or Vocational Preparatory Instruction is an Adult General Education program that prepares students for academic, technical and personal success.  Through the VPI program, students can attain academic and workforce readiness skills at the level of functional literacy (grade levels 6.0-8.9) or higher so that they can pursue certificate career education or high-level career education.  Because VPI is a workforce development program, the course must reflect the requirements of the workplace as well as assist students in successfully completing their vocational certificate programs.  You may have known the VPI program as the SAIL lab.  Prior to 1999-2000, VPI was known as SAIL (System for Applied Individualized Learning).  Still a little confused about what types of skills the VPI program covers?  Connect to the following link and you will be able to view the curriculum framework for the VPI program.  You will see that the VPI Framework is divided into four courses with three literacy completion points (LCPs).  It is also strongly recommended that related vocational skills and terminology be an integral part of the VPI curriculum.  To view the VPI curriculum framework, please click on the following link:

Florida Department of Education - Curriculum Frameworks for Vocational Preparatory Instruction (VPI) Program http://www.firn.edu/doe/dwdframe/ad/ad_frame.htm
then select Vocational Preparatory Instruction (VPI) - 990001sn and it will then show in a .pdf file.

OK, now that you are familiar with the VPI curriculum framework, let's get into the world of assessment!
