  SCANS COMPETENCIES

While creating modules to integrate academic and career/technical instruction, remember that Vocational Preparatory Instruction should follow the guidelines of Secretary's Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills (SCANS). Based on these requirements, VPI students are required to be competent in the following skills:

  • Identify, organize, and use resources appropriately
  • Work cooperatively and productively as a part of a team
  • Gather and use information
  • Understand social, organizational and technological systems
  • Work with a variety of tools and equipment

SCANS Competency: Identify, Organize, and Use Resources Appropriately

In the VPI Lab, students have access to and are encouraged to use a wide variety of resources: computers and software, textbooks, workbooks, booklets, videos, cassette players, and other people. Using these resources, students learn the skills to enable them to become successful workers.

Please refer to SCANS Student Activities Module: Resource
Planning and Management.
