2. Diagnose/Assess

The next step in the process of serving students is to diagnose or assess. VPI is more than just vocational; it is also academic.  The Academic Skills Component of the VPI Program includes reading, mathematics and language. Assessment of the student's level in reading, mathematics, and language begins with a basic skills assessment using one of the five tests listed in Rule 6A-10.040, FAC.  Diagnosis means to determine the student's need in such a way that one can prescribe instruction specific to his/her need and skip any instruction not needed.

The State of Florida has approved specific basic skills tests for use in determining whether students meet the basic skills level required for completion from a vocational program in which they are enrolled.  Click on the file folder to review the approved tests.  Notice that assessment instruments are also included for students who qualify for alternative testing based on the documentation of a disability or limited English proficiency.
