3. Prescribe Based on the results of the assessment, each student receives an individualized prescription of learning modules that is related to the student's specific vocational program, if possible. The individual student's prescription is developed based on the results of the interview, a learning styles evaluation, meeting with the vocational program instructor and the MALD (Modular Analysis of Learning Difficulties). The MALD refers the Learning Manager to specific pages in the VPI Prescribing Catalogs that match sub skills with a variety of carefully selected materials, in various media. A prescription is prepared for the individual in each subject area needing remediation. The prescribed learning modules enable students to succeed by mastering small increments of learning in a carefully prepared hierarchy of skills. The VPI prescriptive system is designed to be a flexible, highly motivating one. The student receives feedback through programmed, self-instructional, prioritized materials. This enables the student to have an on-going personal evaluation of progress and accomplishments. Throughout the student's participation in VPI, the prescription acts as a management tool to facilitate individual student progress and skill development. The prescription is periodically updated as needed. Upon completion of the prescribed assignments, the student is retested with an alternate form of the initial assessment instrument. W hen the mastery level is reached, students may return full time to their vocational classroom programs. To ensure the student's success, follow-up by the VPI staff continues with each student's vocational teacher and additional instruction is provided as necessary.
