Welcome to the world of VPI (Vocational Preparatory Instruction). The way that adults learn impacts the types of programs that will provide the most effective learning experiences.  Within your VPI lab, it is important that you understand the various learning styles of your students.  If you understand the differences that exist in the various learning styles, you will better meet your students' needs.  Effective learning experiences can be enhanced through using different strategies to meet the "unique" learning styles of each of your students.

This web-based training component has been designed to provide you with some basic information on learning styles and how using the appropriate "learning style" increases opportunities for success with VPI students.  From this training you will be able to:

  • Identify different learning theories
  • Define three major learning styles
  • Explore different teaching strategies and techniques
  • Incorporate the different learning styles into a "teaching style"
  • Identify how "external forces" can affect learning

For additional information on learning styles, you may wish to access the Vocational Preparatory Instruction Staff Self-Training Program at: www.floridatechnet.org/inservice/vpi/assess/module/learning.pdf.

This program was developed by the State of Florida Adult Secondary/GED/VPI Committee of the Practitioners' Task Force, through an Adult Education State Leadership Grant from the Florida Department of Education, Division of Community Colleges and Workforce Education.
