Why Do I Need to Know About Learning Styles in a VPI Lab?Do you know how you learn? Do you know how your students learn? Often a person teaches in the same manner in which he/she was taught. A person also uses those skills or techniques that are most comfortable for him/her to use. That may not always be the best style for a particular student. The purpose of learning about learning styles is to influence one's teaching style in order to benefit all students. Everyone learns differently. Have you ever noticed when you are in a workshop or training session that some people take lots and lots of notes, while others rarely write down anything? Have you noticed that some people doodle while they listen, while others squirm in their seats? You may not have given it a lot of thought, but it is important that you understand the differences that each person has when it comes to learning. Through your VPI lab, students are being prepared for academic, technical and personal success. VPI is designed to work with the "individual." An individual's style of learning is very important to his/her success. Remember, the basic structure for a VPI program is:
Everywhere in your program, the individual is the key to success. That means you need to know how each of your students learn! |
