Developing the LEP student's listening ability.
LEP students are sometimes confused by the way native speakers speak English.
What you can do:
add focused listening for information activities from relevant video or cassette materials; explain how to interpret reduced pronunciation such as "gotta, wouldja; couldja, didja;" ask students to interview each other, staff in their schools or people in their communities and make reports on what they learned.

Demonstrating gender equity in the lab.
Working well with people of diverse cultural backgrounds and mixed genders is extremely important in the American workplace. Employees are expected to get along with coworkers and operate as a team member.
What you can do: use graphic organizer activities to compare and contrast gender roles around the world and in the U.S.; create mixed gender pairs and teams whenever possible; include readings about workers in nontraditional roles i.e. female mechanics or a male nurses; ask students to create posters regarding sexual harassment rules and consequences.

Incorporating skills for goal setting, problem solving and participative management.
LEP students can build a sense of self-reliance and independence when they are asked what they would like to learn and given skills to get where they want to go.
What you can do: Use brainstorming techniques and rank ordering to activate thinking.
