  TIPS FOR MEASURING STUDENT PROGRESS

In addition to any mandated testing using State approved tests, teacher made tests indicate the effectiveness your lessons and activities and also inform the student on areas of achievement and areas still needing development. Assessments should match the language ability of the students For example, beginning level students can select from lists or make posters. Intermediate level students can write phrases or sentences in a graphic organizer. Advanced students can make oral presentations.

Alternative ways to measure student progress include:

  • Student presentations, exhibits or projects on a workplace topic

  • Writing lists of steps in a safety procedure

  • For students with developing language skills, provide a list of reasons to follow a safety procedure, students select 3 and explain orally why they were selected.

  • Retell or summarize a text on general work ethics common to workplaces in the United States using a graphic organizer.

  • Use rubrics and checklists

  • Use Self-evaluation

  • Portfolios

  • Learning Logs
