Welcome to Helping Adults Gain Complementary Skills through the VPI (Vocational Preparatory Instruction) program. This web-based training component has been designed to provide you with some basic information about complementary skills that you will need as part of a well-rounded educational program. It is not enough that you provide students with the basic academic skills they will need, but you must also work with students to make sure they are prepared for real-life in the workplace. In this component, you will learn about providing opportunities for students to learn more about complementary skills - those common sense skills that everyone needs to be successful at home, in the community and in the workplace. This web-based training component will address each of the following major topic areas:
- Community Resources
- Consumerism and Money Management
- Personal and Social Skills and Interactions
- Mental and Physical Well-Being
- Cultural Awareness
Before you get started, please complete an orientation session. The orientation session will introduce you to the different icons and symbols that you will encounter throughout this web-based training. This training will use special icons to help you connect your learning to real-life activities. These helpful icons will guide you through this web-based experience. A key for the icons is always located in the left hand column of each page. Click below to begin the orientation.
