Introduction What Is VPI? VPI or Vocational Preparatory Instruction is an Adult General Education program that prepares students for academic, technical and personal success. Through the VPI program, students can attain academic and workforce readiness skills at the level of functional literacy (grade levels 6.0 - 8.9) or higher so that they can pursue certificate career education or high-level career education. Because VPI is a workforce development program, the course must reflect the requirements of the workplace. Prior to 1999-2000, VPI was known as SAIL (System for Applied Individualized Learning). VPI is divided into four courses with three literacy completion points (LCPs). Remember, it is always important that related vocational skills and terminology be an integral part of the VPI curriculum. What Is Workplace Readiness? The ultimate goal of all workforce development programs is to prepare adults to be productive and self-sufficient members of the community. Many adults who enroll in VPI programs lack basic workplace readiness skills. The VPI Workplace Readiness component provides:
