Administrator
of Excellence
What does it take to
be an "Administrator of Excellence?" Throughout this component we
have talked about what you need to do to initiate a new GED program.
As the instructional leader, you must also assess what it takes to be a
“GED Administrator of Excellence.” Just like the activity where you
had to think back to that special teacher in your own educational past,
now think of an administrator. Think of an administrator that you
wanted to be like. At the same time, think of an administrator who
had traits that you did not wish to emulate. Did the “Administrator
of Excellence” listen to your ideas? Did he or she care about students?
Did the administrator act as an “instructional leader” for the school?
Now think of the “other” administrator. Did this administrator have
similar traits to the “Administrator of Excellence?” Compare and
contrast these two individuals. As you complete this exercise, think
about how your teachers would evaluate you. Post your list to the
bulletin board to share with other administrators.
Click below to access the GED Administrators'
Bulletin Board. Once there, list traits of an "Administrator of Excellence"
and then traits of an ineffective administrator. While there, take
a peek at what other administrators have shared. You'd be amazed
at the common traits found across the board of effective administrators.
