* Researchers have observed that good schools usually have good principals.  Current thinking on principals or administrators has identified several characteristics that are important in providing sound leadership. 
 
A Good Administrator
  • Recognizes teaching and learning as the main business of a school
  • Communicates the school’s mission clearly and consistently to staff members and students
  • Fosters standards for teaching and learning that are high and attainable
  • Provides clear goals and monitors the progress of students toward meeting them
  • Spends time in classrooms and listening to teachers
  • Promotes an atmosphere of trust and sharing
  • Builds a good staff and makes professional development a top concern
  • Does not tolerate bad teachers
