* Evaluating Teacher Performance

As accountability has increased, so has the need for evaluation of teacher performance.  Teacher evaluation should be viewed as a positive not a negative activity.  Done properly, teacher evaluation helps not only the teacher improve his/her performance, but also provides the teacher with much needed and often appreciated information about all of the positive aspects of the classroom.  Educators often view evaluation as an attempt to “find out what is wrong” rather than an opportunity to “find what is right” and how to encourage and reinforce the positives in the classroom.  There are a number of excellent sites on the Internet that provide information about teacher evaluation.

Click on the link below and review the information provided by Dr. Kenneth D. Peterson, Ph.D., Portland State University, Portland Oregon.  This site provides excellent information on procedures and practices that can assist the program administrator in evaluating teacher performance.
