Nationwide Overview of Online Professional Development Opportunities
The purpose of this online review was to explore and identify online professional development opportunities for Florida’s Adult Education Practitioners. As can be seen by the number of entries identified below, the Internet community holds the key to an unlimited amount of professional development opportunities. In that regard, Florida TechNet will continue to monitor the Internet and make additions to this PD listing as needed.
The majority of the online courses are self‐study, and provided free of charge. In cases where there is a fee, the cost is minimal and certificates of completion are distributed.

Verizon Literacy Campus (VLC)

A Web-based initiative that works to recruit and train volunteers to support literacy programs. Verizon Literacy Campus currently offers 26 free online courses on a variety of topics that address the needs of potential and existing literacy volunteers, as well as literacy program directors and staff.

This site offers a wealth of information to Encourage prospective volunteers to find a program and volunteer, help prepare new literacy volunteers to work with learners and enable literacy program managers to offer training for volunteers and paid staff at no cost.

PBS TeacherLine

PBS TeacherLine, funded by a grant from the Department of Education, provides teachers with online professional development in mathematics and technology integration. In collaboration with the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and leading educational producers, TeacherLine has developed online facilitated modules and self-paced learning opportunities that teachers can access anytime, anywhere.

ProLiteracy International and World Education

An excellent place to take online professional development courses in
adult education is through ProLiteracy International and World
Education. Most of the courses are free. These two non-profit organizations provide excellent training's for adult education administrators and instructors. Both organizations have a long history of providing training's for adult education programs.
