As you work through the
various web-based trainings, you may encounter either
a document that you will need to open and print, or
an opportunity to hear the text of the page as an audio
file. While many computers have a built in audio program
(Real Player), some still lack the proper plugins (additional
programs to enhance a website). This tutorial will show
you how to download and install the first of two additional
programs that will assist you in making the most of
the web-based trainings. Check back soon to learn how
to download and install Real Player. You may want to
print this page and any additional pages to use as a
guide.
Downloading
Adobe Acrobat Reader
You may have come across
files on the Internet that are in a format called "PDF"
(post data format). These files were at one time, a
Microsoft Word document, an Excel spreadsheet, or other
desktop publishing files. In an effort to maintain the
look and feel of the files, Adobe has created a program
that converts these documents into a consistent format
called pdf. All the files in the web-based trainings
will be in pdf format. Follow the instructions below
to download and install the free plugin from Adobe's
website. Remember to click the arrow in the top right-hand
corner to proceed to the next page.
- Click on this button
to go to the Adobe website.
- In the middle of the
main page will be a box that looks similar to this:
- Complete the information
in the box as it pertains to YOUR computer system.
In my example, I have a computer that uses Windows
98.
