Introduction
The integration of services distinguishes family literacy
programs from other literacy intervention efforts. Programs
integrate services almost seamlessly. Parent-child interaction
methods discussed during parenting classes are practiced
during Parent and Child Together (PACT) Time. Books used
in preschool classes are also used in adult literacy classes
and reinforced on home visits. Some of the reading material
used in adult literacy classes includes information about
parenting.
Through an independent research study, two family literacy
programs in Florida were reviewed in an effort to document
effective practices in Curricular Integration. The two programs;
Jump Start, in Immokalee and GROWS, in Apopka were visited
during the fall of 2005. From the results of that study,
the Governor's Family Literacy Initiative developed an extensive,
multimedia training program to share with other Family Literacy
programs and showcase Best Practices in Curricular Integration.
This interactive training module is designed for Family
Literacy providers to learn and practice those best practices,
anytime, anywhere. Learners can proceed through the training
at any pace. Access each module by clicking on the appropriate
titles in the toolbar. For information regarding obtaining

Just as all caring parents, Sallie Burden Godfrey and
her husband, Ellis Godfrey, have big hopes and dreams
for their child. But unlike most parents, their vision
for the future took on a new dimension when they learned
upon her birth that their daughter, Princess-Skylar, was
deaf.
